The man who brought us this chair told the following story: This had been a beloved, comfortable, solid chair which had rocked all of his four children to sleep when they were young. The children were now much older, and some rough-housing accident had resulted in this gruesome smashup.  The wife threw it away, and it was a sad moment, because the chair now seemed part of the family.  The husband secretly removed the chair from the garbage and brought it to Buck. It was possible to make new spindles which matched the old, and once it was in prime shape again, the husband brought it home and gave it to his wife for Christmas.
