This table was designed by Tim Perks for himself and his wife Elizabeth Manwaring as their home’s dining table. The wood is solid mahogany, and we mixed the stain color specifically to match other woodwork in the home. Because a rather narrow apron was desired, Buck’s challenge as the mechanic was to keep the 300 lb. slab of carrera marble (at 5 X 7 feet, the large width was unusual) perfectly level and flat across its full width and length, and to prevent the legs from spreading apart. This situation required flawless collaboration with other professionals (in this case, Charlie Conrad of Conrad Stonecutter) in order to ensure that the table would be built to fit the already-cut stone precisely. Installation day was a nail-biter, but the marble eased in and fit perfectly. Charlie Conrad was a joy to work with. Also deserving of praise for pulling off a major miracle with these unique split-turned legs is our friend and colleague Tim Corcoran of Aurora Colony Woodturning.
